Your Eyes

First, your eyes are an important consideration when you get your hair cut. If your eyes are small and set close together, you do not want to get a hairstyle that is going to make them look even smaller.

This includes styles that are layered a lot around the face or that have really short layers around the eyes. Also, haircuts that bring the hair onto the face right by the eyes will make your eyes appear smaller.

If you want to give the illusion that your eyes are bigger, then choose a haircut that is off the face. If you need bangs, then go with a sweeping bang instead of a downward bang because sweeping bangs make the face look a little wider and will help your eyes to stand out instead of being hidden.

Your Face Proportions

The first section includes the area above your eyebrows or your forehead. The second section includes your eyebrows, eyes, and nose. The third section starts right under your nose and goes to your chin.

What you want to know is whether these areas are proportional for a haircut. If you have a really large forehead, then a style with bangs can help to balance things out so that your face looks even. Likewise, if you have a bigger chin, then do not pick a style that is going to elongate your chin, such as long hair right around your face.

Lastly, your face shape will largely affect the style that you choose. If you have an oval face, then you can choose just about any hairstyle because an oval face works with short, medium, and long styles. You still have to consider the other factors mentioned above, but most hairstyles will work.

If you have a round face shape, then stay away from bobs and hair styles that come to your chin because they will just accentuate the roundness. Instead, look for a haircut with longer layers and texture so that your face will actually appear a little longer.

If you have a square face, then avoid boxy haircuts and often really short hairstyles as well. You need something softer, such as a layered haircut or a hairstyle with gentle curls and sweeping bangs to soften the look of your jaw.
